How To Obtain Your North Carolina Driving Record

There are two main ways to obtain your certified driving record: online or by mail.  Below is a step-by-step guide to obtain your driving record by either method.  If you get stuck on any of the steps, send us an email at info@kregerlawfirm.com, and we’ll be happy to guide you through the process.

I. Online

  1. Obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN)
    1. Go tohttps://edmv-pin.dot.state.nc.us/PIN/PINAdministration
    2. Select “Request a PIN”
    3. Provide the requested information
    4. Click “Continue”
    5. Write down your PIN
    6. If you get a message stating “You have previously registered with Click@DMV and have already been issued a PIN, then follow the steps below.
      1. Go tohttps://edmv-pin.dot.state.nc.us/PIN/PINAdministration
      2. Select “Forgot/Lost Your PIN”
      3. Provide the requested information, and answer your personal security question
      4. Click “Continue”
      5. Check your email, and write down your PIN
  2. Order your driving record
    1. Go tohttps://edmv-dr.dot.state.nc.us/DrivingRecords/Login
    2. Provide the requested
    3. Click “Continue”
    4. On the next page, select the first box that states “For the applicant’s own personal record.”
    5. Click “Continue”
    6. On the next page, click “I Accept”
    7. On the next page, in the “Fee/Type” drop down menu select “Certified – $11.00”
    8. Enter your mailing address
    9. Enter your credit card information and billing address
    10. Click “Continue”
    11. The last page you see should inform you that your transaction went through correctly, and that the NC DMV will mail you your certified copy of your North Carolina Driving Record within 10 days.

II. Mail

  1. Obtain Form DL-DPPA-1 (you can obtain the form at your local DMV office, or online at https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/downloads/Documents/DL-DPPA-1.pdf
    1. Complete Part I of Form DL-DPPA-1
    2. Circle option number 1 “1.  For the applicant’s own record.”
    3. Check the box that states “Certified Complete History – $11.00.”
    4. Provide all requested information in Part I
    5. Ignore Part II of the Form (Request for Address History)
  2. Write a check, or obtain a money order, for $11.00
    1. Make the check or money order payable to NCDMV
    2. Be sure to put  your driver’s license number in the memo line on your check or money order
  3. Mail the completed Form DL-DPPA-1, along with the $11.00 check or money order to:
